- Overnight Emergency Associate Veterinarian

Southpaw Veterinary Clinic & Emergency Care is a fast-paced, 24/7 veterinary hospital serving the West Omaha community with a combination of primary care and urgent/emergency services. We are seeking an Overnight Emergency Associate Veterinarian to join our growing team. This position will begin with training on day shifts and transition into overnights, working three 12-hour shifts from 9:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. As part of our continued growth, this role will support the expansion of our emergency services in preparation for our new hospital opening next winter.
The Associate Veterinarian will be responsible for managing walk-in and overflow emergency cases while delivering high-quality medical, surgical, and diagnostic care. This role requires comfort working in a dynamic environment with a wide variety of cases and species, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with the medical team. Responsibilities include providing emergency and urgent care, performing necessary procedures and surgeries, interpreting laboratory and radiographic results, overseeing hospitalized patient care, maintaining accurate medical records, and communicating clearly and compassionately with clients. Our clinic treats a diverse range of patients, including dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and other non-traditional species, with additional training in exotic care provided.
Requirements
Candidates must hold a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree and maintain an active Nebraska Veterinary License, or be able to obtain licensure within six months of employment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong proficiency in emergency and urgent care case management, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. They should be experienced in animal handling and restraint, IV and IO catheter placement, administering IM, IV, IO, and SQ injections, interpreting laboratory diagnostics, and utilizing radiology and other diagnostic tools. The ability to manage hospitalized patients, perform emergency or urgent surgical procedures, and provide leadership and supervision during shifts is essential.
Preferred candidates will have experience with anesthesia administration and monitoring, radiographic imaging, emergency or urgent care surgery, and working with exotic or non-traditional species. Applicants should be comfortable using medical equipment such as radiology units, ultrasound, and electrocautery, and must be physically capable of safely handling and treating a variety of animals. Strong adaptability, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced overnight setting are critical, along with a willingness to participate in a rotating holiday schedule, typically limited to two holidays per year.
